I slipped on my socks and stepped out the door
Realised that I forgot my shoes so I stepped back in once more
Once I chose the appropriate footwear I stepped back out again
I'm in a state, I'm running late - hot-footing to the station
I'm reaching out for you Delainey, my darling
I've got a pocketful of the right change
Please don't delay me, Delainey, my baby
Your timetable drives me crazy
I'm stood here lost in a queue
Counting all the pensioners - there's quite a few!
Rollin' the dice to occupy my time
I can't live my life until I get my bus ride
My mind's a-wondering, so are your hands
Being politely fondled in public - it wasn't part of my plans
But it's a welcome distraction from the tedium
Joe Pasquale sounds like he's on helium
I'm reaching out for you Delainey, my darling
I've got a pocketful of the right change
Please don't delay me, Delainey, my baby
Your timetable drives me crazy
I'm stood here lost in a queue
It's been 45 minutes - that's quite a few!
Rollin' the dice to occupy my time
I can't live my life until I get my bus ride
Sha-la-la-la...
A-choo
Release notes:
All words & music by Bri Jnr. & Tico Jnr.
Tico Jnr. cocks a leg and squirms:
Another joyous romp, a fan favourite, for real. While it isn't clear when this was written, a video documenting the occasion proves it was definitely written on 13th September, 2014. Plans had been made for it to be on a Friday 13th, but with leap years and what not, the session was held on Saturday 13th.
As provider of all sorts of fun, I can sensationally reveal a fun fact about this ditty. Bri Jnr. jestered 'capo, 4th fret' during the demo session. For many years I had wondered why, until I realised that we both had been playing my guitars (I using my Washburn jazzy thing, condemned to some jumble sale (I hadn't realised it was a collectors edition and worth several hundred thousand pounds), and he was using my Flying Vee (had I been aware I wouldn't have allowed it, but he was playing in a darkened and very obscured area of the studio)), with a capo on the 4th fret. Fascinating.
A triumphant song we thought. We were right - it's my favourite bus related song, only bettered by Climb On Board and Parky'...
To revert back to the original session, those in attendance will fondly remember I was supping Stella Artois from a glass (brand unknown), via a can. Around this period I was partial to a stiff one, whereas Bri thoroughly enjoyed carrying around an empty cola glass, as if he were on Blockbusters with some mascot that in a non-direct way inferred he was a paeodophile.
Bri Jnr., while stroking his knee tells us:
Composed during a traumatic period for yours truly, this ditty documents my dependence on unreliable rural public transport as I had lost my driving license temporarily due to excessive Um-Bongo abuse. So erratic was my behaviour at this time, I was wandering the neighbourhood in odd socks with no shoes on my feet, whilst mumbling incoherently about Joe Pasquale. I was in danger of becoming Mr. Greensocks Jnr., prior to his astonishing comeback (not yet discussed or sung about, editor)
This mournful, jangly ballad captures the mood with an exquisite chord sequence and Tico's supportive bellows for Delainey, my baby. The fact that we managed to squeeze out this beauty during our creatively-barren years (the 2010's for the most part) is proof that the well of inspiration is never completely dry. Sometimes all you need is a little moisture and before you know it, your creative juices are flowing freely once again.
