Bri Jnr. has a little snort before proclaiming:
Despite Gullet's phenomenal success, we knew that the goodwill would not last if we returned with more of the same on our next release. So we decided to blatantly sell out and woo local commercial radio stations with the focus-grouped power ballads and coffee table pop of this E.P. Mr Greensocks was given his marching orders and there was no Beef to be found on the menu. We compromised our sound and vision willingly and as a result, we succeeded in retaining our original fanbase (who were prepared to accept anything we released) whilst gaining a new audience including single mums from Grimsby, old age pensioners from Felixstowe, you name them- they climbed on board the Space Brain bandwagon and we welcomed them with sweaty open arms. This E.P planted the seeds for the next phase of our masterplan, the hugely successful 'Sparks Will Fly' tour... Tico Jnr. unphased states:
Bri Jnr. had grown too big for nappies, and in turn wanted more of a grown-up role on this EP. I let him run around a bit, keeping him on the reigns slightly, and this is the tripe he came up with. It was originally meant to be a three-track release, but I decided Sky Blue Sky needed to be promptly incarnated and included. To this very moment (I have a text re-affirming the point), Bri Jnr. insists he came up with the title. Whatever. If that's all you've got. We sure stooped to some level with this EP, but it sold and sold and sold, presumably because of the fold-out semi-naked poster of me included with every copy. I still have one up in the spare room since the original release (August 2006) - it must be worth a pretty penny. |
