I was devastated over Evil Knieval
But not half as much as Jeremy Beadle
He was the king of primetime TV
He made my Saturday nights less lonely
He was game for a laugh now he's dead for a laugh
There's nationwide mourning from Bristol to Bath
He's been framed in his coffin, condemned to the land
As the credits rolled he waved his funny hand
Jeremy Beadle, man of the people
Who's gonna prank us now?
A moment of reflection
You better watch out!
Pavarotti - legend forever
He was never short of a tennor
His voice was bigger than he could be
He was to opera what burgers were to Presley
He sung every song with admirable gusto
He sung for ice cream but not for Bisto
He was present at the funeral of Diana
But refused to sing, 'cos she didn't really matter
O'solamio, he lead the trio
Who's gonna lead them now?
A moment of reflection
That were dead good, that were
Release notes:
All music by Bri Jnr., all words by Bri Jnr. & Tico Jnr.
Bri Jnr. champions:
This ditty inspired the idea of writing a series of dittys every year with each verse honouring a recently departed celebrity (we have yet to write any further songs in the series). 2016 alone would have more verses than 'American Pie', such was the volume of celebrity passings that particular year.
Verse one of this original ditty was a tribute to the much-missed Jeremy Beadle, his primetime pranks inspiring Tico and myself to prank call local taxi firms with our cover of 'Getcha Freak On' in our early days. Verse two lovingly details our much publicised admiration for Pavarotti and to a much lesser extent, Princess Diana.
As per usual I wrote too many words so the only way to get the lyrics to fit the music was for me to record each line separately, thus every line overlaps the next. It sounds marvellous though I'm sure you agree. In live concert situations, Tico would sing the alternate lines so I could take a breather inbetween, how thoughtful he is. And following this statement, I declare that it is time for a moment of reflection.
Tico Jnr. jerks:
I must give credit exactly where it is due, and on this occassion Bri did pour plenty of talent into this cherub. However, the best lines came from my head.
I am well-jell that I couldn't alternate 'vox' on the studio recording, but I always got carried away with the samba-style beat, so it's best I pull it off only in the live environment where I am playing percussion on a trio of flint stones.
