Bri Jnr. quivers:
Our third full length album and quite possibly our best to date, especially in high definition. As far as third albums go, this was our 'Urban Hymns', 'Parklife' and 'OK Computer' all together on steroids. This is the third album that 'Be Here Now' wishes it was.
We broke sales records on both sides of the Atlantic with queues stretching across counties and states at midnight openings of HMV's and Walmart's on release day. Lead single 'Climb On Board (The Mega Rider)' topped the UK Singles Chart for a Bryan Adams-smashing 18 weeks - it was only knocked off the top by follow up single 'A Barbecue (For The Vegans)' which barely scraped 3 weeks at the top before a rush-released third single 'I'm So Empty Inside (Unlike My Bladder)' took pole position for 14 weeks - it would have stayed at number one for longer but Tico got fed up with changing his hairstyle for every Top Of The Pops appearance week in, week out so he forced the record company to delete the single. This move backfired as 'A Barbecue (For The Vegans)' returned to number one (just in time for Christmas) which of course meant another Top Of The Pops performance. NME Magazine gave the album a generous (for them) 9 out of 10 rating, declaring it "Bri's finest hour with Tico desperately trying to play catch up". Tico Jnr. romps:
A great album, but it could've been so much better if I was around for more of the writing and recording. Just before we started on this album (which was meant to be a one-off digital download to the highest bidder) I moved into a luxury one-bed apartment above a few garages towards the edge of the fens. The air had a whiff of pestiside about it, so when I was with it I did craft some wonderful ideas. Generally, I was very much occupied at watching passers-by. As with all the best ideas, I decided every song title would have an exceptional use of parentheses (brackets), just as Meat' did (rest in peace). And as the album (title) naming duties went to me, I felt it right to carry on the theme (here). |
