Bri Jnr. wonders:
What an achievement for Tico and I, Bri! If you had told me back in Space Brains baby photo days in 2002 (when we were busy recording white noise experiments and covers of children's TV theme tunes) that within 6 years we would have a compilation album of our greatest original dittys, I would have been flubber-ghosted, ahem, I mean flabbergasted. But you would have been proved right and this best of compilation very much exists in spite of, or perhaps because of, our questionable talents. If an alien race descended on our planet and they demanded to hear what human beings, poetry and musical instruments were capable of, all you would need to play them is this very album. Every genre, emotion and musical note you can think of is to be found somewhere within these 18 songs, handpicked at random by our steel drummer (I never knew his name) out of a bowler hat containing every single Space Brain song title that existed at that point (except for 'Freaky Passion Fruit' which was our contractually-obliged newbie to fleece the diehards). Heat magazine generously compared our best of to other classic compilations such as 'Shabba Gold' and Bon Jovi's b-side compilation 'Cross With Crossroads'. It was also certified quad-triple platinum in Iran would you believe. What more do I need to say? Tico Jnr. reluctanly confesses:
I am not one of those chuffers who doesn't want to do a 'greatest hits', or a 'best of'. I'm all for it, especially as I am the talented one in the semi-boyband and therefore get the lions share of what we earn. Of course, that cheesed off Bri Jnr. for many years, but he's enjoyed exponential growth on his broken biscuit market stall, and he is no doubt having a chortle to himself. Our entire repertoire is nicely represented on his cassette compilation, although I would've chosed more of my songs had Bri Jnr. not been so insistant on crying and self-harming anytime a decision didn't go entirely his way. I've not seen such a beaming smile though, as the one Bri expressed when I gave permission for him to join me on my 'Freaky Passionfruit', the 103% brand new track for the mix-tape. |
